Pro Bono
OVERVIEW
Pro Bono is the voluntary advice and expertise service given by lawyers in deserving cases for those who are unable to obtain legal aid and cannot afford to pay. At the University of Hull we provide three specific Pro Bono schemes:

- Asylum Seekers
- Housing
- Young Offenders

You will be given a choice to choose which scheme you would like to take part in, you can choose more than one. This will allow you to be put into groups, where you will put together a presentation for the Pro Bono service chosen. Each individual scheme has their own presentations in which for each specific schemes different topics will be provided to the individual groups to research and put together a presentation.
For example, within the Asylum seekers scheme one group will have the job to research ‘How to access education as a asylum seeker’ and another group ‘Court Process if Refused Asylum’ and present this to an audience of Asylum Seekers.
Along with the Pro Bono Coordinator, each scheme has its own representatives who will help you every step of the way in order for this to be a success. Our representatives for this year will be:
Pro Bono Coordinator: Hannah Durkin
Young Offenders Rep: Michelle Williams
Housing Rep: Jodie Brown

Asylums Seekers Rep: Noreen Asif
Pro Bono work is seen to be very prestigious and crucial in a day-to-day lawyers work life. Many law firms recommend you have done some form of Pro Bono work as it will help you stand out in this very competitive world of work. Not only does it help you in your future career path, there are also great personal benefits you gain from competing in the scheme. For example enhancing your leadership skills, team work and public speaking skills, boosting your personal confidence as you go.
At the end of the scheme there will be a awards ceremony, where you will be presented with a certificate for all your hard work done for those that needed it the most.
