We are delighted to announce that our annual ‘Advocate of the Year 2018-19’ national mock trial competition is now open. We would like to invite students from your university to apply to take part in the competition. Advocate of the Year gives participants the unique opportunity to develop real-world legal skills in a competitive arena. The competition involves preparing and delivering aspects of realistic cases, replicating the work of the junior Bar. Actors will play the client roles, and competitors will be judged by BPP tutors, who are qualified lawyers with real trial experience.

All competitors will receive expert feedback and guidance, and the overall winner will be awarded a £6,000 scholarship for BPP’s BPTC, with other prizes awarded to the most promising advocates.
How it works
The competition is open to all students who are yet to commence their legal vocational training (BPTC or LPC).
Due to the popularity of Advocate of the Year, there are already 23 universities from across the country who are interested entering a team to take part in the competition. However, we are also offering students from your university the opportunity to enter and become part of a composite team. The composite team will be selected by BPP following submission of:
· A one page ‘public speaking CV’ · A one minute clip explaining why you would make a good participant
The above should be sent to aoty@bpp.com by no later than midday 20 October 2018. Prior to submitting the above, anyone interested in taking part must also register for the competition using the link: https://aoty2018.eventbrite.co.uk

Successful candidates will be put into a 4-person team which will compete in a regional heat at BPP London (Holborn), 68-70 Red Lion Street, London, WC1R 4NY. This stage of the competition will take place on Saturday, 24 November 2018 and consists of 2 short trials. The highest 12 performing individual advocates in the regional heat trials will qualify for a place in the Grand Final in London on 23 March 2019, where the ultimate winner of the Advocate of the Year will be decided.
All competitors must be available on both 24 November 2018 and 23 March 2019. For full competition details and rules, and to register interest in competing in Advocate of the Year, please see https://aoty2018.eventbrite.co.uk
